About Us.
Founding.
The origins of the school began in 1975 when the Christian A. Richards Memorial Center building was dedicated by the Grace Episcopal Church. The Memorial Center later transitioned into a school and was operated by Grace Episcopal Church. Eventually, school operations were abandoned by Grace Episcopal Church for financial reasons.
The building was abandoned during years of conflict in Liberia.
Foundation.
The Rosalind Richards Educational fund was established in 2012 (managed by St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro, MD) to provide financial support for the school founded by Christian A. Richards.
Christian A. Richards and Rosalind Richards raised and educated their children in Liberia. Their children were able to continue their education in Europe and the US. All of them became successful educators, doctors, and professionals.
In order to give back and help other children in Liberia, the Richards & Coleman Family Foundation was started.
C.A.R.E.S.
The school is tuition-free but community-based. The school is not private and parents have to pay PTA dues in Liberian dollars. Because of severe poverty most parents are unable to help and the school relies heavily on donations. The school does not receive funds or assistance from the government. There are two paid teachers, cooks, and security. Three of the Richards-Coleman family foundation members run the school and teach the students at their own expense.
